We begin with the process of play. In navigating this framework, we create the details of a liberatory future.
MAROONING BODIES & THE FUTURE ARCHIVES
Marooning Bodies is both:
[ 1. ] a format of play, and [ 2. ] an archive of our collective dreams for the future.
The game has been played in Ghana, Senegal, Morocco, and across North America including: USC, CSU East Bay, National Sawdust Creative Forum (NYC), Women and Dance Leadership Conference (Los Angeles) and Norco Prison. Over the course of its run thus far, the game has produced collections of poetry, paintings, creation stories, a perfume series, dance rituals, dissertations, and so forth.
As we garner more imaginings with each gameplay, we engage with the process of building these dreams into something tangible— into creations that can be held, then archived as a directive for the futures to come.
In SPRING 2026, a series of future relics derived from the Marooning Bodies game will be made into real-life art objects. They will be available for public viewing across a series of Los Angeles based sites.
These next steps are supported by the Los Angeles Department of Arts and Culture, the Mellon Foundation, the Feminist Center for Creative Works, LACE, and the Andy Warhol Foundation.
